John Parkes was elected Bishop of Wangaratta in 2008. Prior to his election he was Assistant Bishop and Archbishop’s Commissary in the Diocese of Brisbane, and also Dean of St John’s Cathedral. Bishop John has also served as rector of All Saints’ Church, Ainslie, (1998-2004); Director of the Australian Centre for Christianity and Culture; Archdeacon of Canberra South; Rector of Young; A former barrister, he has also served on the General Synod Standing Committee and the Church Law Commission.
Ken came to the Diocese of Wangaratta in 2014 to be Dean of Holy Trinity Cathedral. Ken was ordained in 1993 and has served in parishes in the Diocese of Brisbane and in the Diocese of London in the UK. Prior to coming to Wangaratta he was Rector of Caloundra-Glasshouse Country in the Diocese of Brisbane, and also Area Dean of the Sunshine Coast. Ken is married to Stephanie and they have two children, Zoe and Jacob. Ken enjoys music and cricket (just watching nowadays) and travel.
Tim Williams is the Registrar for the Anglican Diocese of Wangaratta. Tim Williams comes from a third generation mining family in Queenstown, Tasmania. The last of the traditional missionaries sponsored by Anglican Board of Mission (ABM), Tim's missionary work began in in 1989. It took him from Cape York and the Torres Straight and five years in the Kowanyama Aboriginal community, to Papua New Guinea where he ended up as the Diocesan Secretary in Port Moresby in 2008. Tim says he career highlights are the co-founding of Anglicare PNG, and the setting up of a strong financial base for the Port Moresby Diocese. The latter had flow on effects to aid other PNG dioceses. He hopes to work with Wangaratta's Diocesan team for the renewal of vitality and mission in the church, and he says that the marshalling and good stewardship of the diocese's material resources is imperative to supporting that goal.
Clarence is from Cape Town, South Africa and trained for ministry at the Theological College of the Transfiguration, Grahamstown from 1993 to 1995. Ordained Deacon and then Priested in 1996, he served his first curacy in Strandfontein in the Diocese of Cape Town. A second curacy followed in the Parish of Bredasdorp, then the appointment as rector of the Parish at the end of October 1999. In 2003, a 12-year journey started at the Parish Church of St Andrew Strand where his ministry in the Diocese extended to a ‘Territorial’ Archdeacon of Helderberg and Archdeacon to the Ordinary (Bishop). Over the years of ministry, time spent included Germany and France as part of a Sabbatical Leave in 2007 and 2013. Ministry connections abroad also included the United Kingdom, Diocese of York as Diocesan Link Liaison. After the 12-year period ministering in Strand, Western Cape, South Africa, a discernment process led to Australia serving as Associate Priest in Shepparton until November 2016. Clarence now serves in the dual role as rector of Wangaratta West & The Warbys and Archdeacon of Wangaratta responsible for Ministry Development. Clarence is married to Michelle and they have two teenage boys, Kian and Kyle.
The Rev’d Peter Tinney is currently Rector of Rutherglen Chiltern and Area Dean of the North West of the diocese. He grew up in Mackay, Queensland and following ordination in Perth in 1984 has served in parishes in diverse communities in WA and Nth Qld and now in rural Victoria. He has also spent considerable time working in chaplaincy within the Anglicare network and 13 years as a Chaplain in the Royal Australian Navy. Fr Peter is married to Fiona and between them they have 7 children and 9 grandchildren. Fr Peter has long held a commitment to community and justice issues, seeing this as a practical expression of the Christian faith. All this acknowledges that the human and spiritual journeys are shared in service of our brothers and sisters. In parish or community settings, Fr Peter believes the Church must advocate with those who have no voice. He believes the deaneries are an important resource in strengthening and sustaining clergy.
